I live in a three bedroom trailer and shop on clearance racks. You’re rich, Dear. VERY rich. Don’t take all your stuff for granted. Realize how LUCKY you are.

  • sajkdfhkajsdfh:

naw i think your family is doing good but your not rich

  • JKZ15:

i would have to see what’s in your bank account. just cause ppl have everything doesn’t mean they’re rich, most ppl have some kind of debt

  • GennD:

you’re rich and full of it

  • totallyjoey77:

I think you’re high middle class

  • abhi18033:

no, u just are kinda material minded or spoiled, no offense.

  • Bpj268:

Well your probably not hurting, but you just choose to spend your money on differnt material goods instead of saving, nothing is wrong with that. People probably are justsaying rich becasue it is thrown around alot.

  • Jodith:

No, I think your parents are rich. If they disavowed you tomorrow, I’m sure you’d be poor like the rest of us, as I doubt you make enough personally to actually support yourself in the manner to which you are accustomed.

    Sorry, but you asked.

  • kckid2:

Rich, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. You seem to define it in terms of things you own. Me, I would define in terms of purchasing power…the size of your investment account that you can convert to cash which can then be used to purchase whatever you may decide.

Based on that perspective, by my definition, you are probably broke.

  • Hershey:

umm… yeah.. my friends think i’m rich just cuz of going out a lot but i don’t have designer stuff but compared 2 your friend u are rich.. or maybe your parents just spend money more than other ppl even if they don’t have that much..

  • jlhpisces:

but are you happy? :) It’s great to have nice things – I’d love to have a Coach bag! – but I’d rather be happy than have any of those things! The previous poster was right, you are lucky and should appreciate what you have.

  • Annoyed:

Sounds to me like you just enjoy bragging.

By the way, no you’re not rich.

  • eminence113313:

Is it your money, or is it your parents? If it’s your parents, then no, you are not rich. BTW, I charge $60 for my haircuts, and most everyone who comes to me every 3-4 weeks is middle class.

  • con66:

um this is such a dumb question.. not trying to be mean

  • Bandit:

    A better term is “spoiled”

  • Rei:

to me…yea you sound kinda rich. I mean, i’m struggling to pay the rent and keep food on the table.

  • victoriagent94:

“oh look at me ive got one whole dooney and burke purse, yay me” wow that’s ALOT (note the sarcasm)they dont caust that much

  • qazxsw321:

Be thankful of what you have. Not many people have these things. Maybe that’s why they think you’re rich. Where ever you are in life, I would continue to work hard toward my goals, step by step. Focus on the steps, not the goal, just like climbing stairs. You have to focus on the steps because later in the future, you’re going to have to be on your own sooner or later.

  • Wasted Soldier:

If you’re above the poverty line of $17k yr of a 3 person family then ur rich

  • Sv<3:

In my opinion, no. Your just the middle class. Like I actually know girls who are lower middle class that have that stuff. So, I wouldn’t worry.

  • Danni K:

If you have at least 100 dollars.then your rich..i mean your not poor if you have a hundred dollars rightt?? your rich..so really your not poor.

  • Amy:

Umm..Are you serious? Just because you own a couple designer hand bags and your mom is foolish doesnt mean your rich! Sorry to break it to u honey but YOUR not rich, if anyone would be it would be your parents!! But no i dont think your family is rich just because of hair cuts, hand bags, and fooseball tables!!!! Get over yourself!!!!!

  • Via:

r u just trying to show off? cuz it really seems that way. Like lets just list all the expensive stuff i own shall we…
wait i dont own anything expensive…

  • courage:

All those names don’t mean anything do anything for me and your not rich because if you were you would have much more and it would be your house and money not your mothers and your mom might not be rich just full of debt and careless about her money. You sound materialistic not to be rude see how that phrase sounds.

  • proverbsfinancial:

It sounds like you may be spiritually poor since you are measuring your standard of rich against your material wealth. Try going to a local Church to see what they have to offer. You may end up richer than you ever expected.

  • Polo:

If you are happy, healthy, have a roof over your head and have plenty of true friends, then you are rich. Wealth isn’t calculated by money alone…..

  • Zorro:

You sound like a self centered brat .
Why don’t you find ways to help other people, like your grand parents, any family members friends that are less fortunate than you, go to convalescent homes to try to put a smile on a little old lady that does not have any family members that visit her, because they are too busy being selfish to think of others.
Money is not the root of all evil, the Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil.

  • scottsdalehigh64:

No. Your richness is determined by the market value of your assets minus the debts you have. You have only listed the assets, and you did not include your liquid assets. Neither did you list your debts. Your list only includes non-liquid assets, most of which have little resale value. The best asset here is the house, but it is not very liquid these days, and you did not mention how much is owed on it.

  • STEVEN F:

Based on your question, your family is SPENDING as if you are rich.
Actually, that is not true, most rich people got that way by NOT spending like your family.

  • Lauren C:

No, you’re not rich at all, you’re just not dirt poor. If your friends think Dooney & Bourke, Coach, and Uggs make you rich, then they’ve obviously never met anyone who really does have money.

  • C'mon Get Happy:

You sound like you are lucky that your parents are able to provide you with material comforts when billions of parents around the world cannot even afford to feed their children.

  • Mahin:

    Wealth doesnt make people rich,,,,,,,,
People are rich if they have good friends and supportive family,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Pharm~Marcy:

Only if you were asking this question from your downtown penthouse in Manhattan. Otherwise, no you are not. I have all the same things you do in my closet and I am far from rich.

  • Rella:

Your family sounds comfortably well-off, but I don’t know if you’re ready to join the cast of “Silver Spoons.”

There are no official guidelines as to what constitutes “rich”–rich is relative. If you live in America, you are rich compared to most of the rest of the world.

You can compare your family’s annual income to the U.S. poverty guidelines, and see how far above it you are (scroll down to see table):
    http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/07poverty.shtml

I am glad to hear you’re practicing gratitude for all your blessings. Many people make do with much less. I don’t think you need to apologize for enjoying the good things in life as long as you are mindful to give to others who are less fortunate. Some people believe in giving 10% of their income to charity.

People tend to be jealous of those who appear to have it better than they do, but everyone has different challenges to face, including the challenges of too little challenges, because overcoming difficulties can strengthen us and enlarge our understanding of and compassion for others.

One way your family could consider giving to others is through Freecycling what you no longer need or want:
    http://www.freecycle.org/

You could also donate to a food pantry.
    http://www.secondharvest.org/

Regardless of how much money you have, life is richer when you give to others.

    P.S.
One book that might interest you is “The Millionaire Next Door” by Thomas J. Stanley & William D. Danko. It talks about the habits of the rich.

Some people would FEEL rich if they could just pay all their bills every month and put enough nutritious food on the table. I’m not kidding. You have no idea how hard some people struggle just to make ends meet.

One thing you could do that might be an eye opener for you is to take a couple different annual incomes for a single person–say $10,000 for the very poor and $20,000 for the relatively poor–divide those amounts by 52 weeks per year, and you get $192.30 and $384.61. That’s how much the person would have to live on each week.

That isn’t all spending money: they have to pay rent and utilities, buy groceries, pay for their car (don’t forget repairs!), gas, insurance, pet care, maybe baby care if they are a single parent, pay doctor and dentist bills (assuming they are able to go to the doctor or dentist), pay for household items and cleaning supplies, etc. So a very large percentage of their income would go toward basic living expenses.

Now start writing down all the money you spend, every penny (this is a good financial practice for life, actually). Write it down at the time you spend it; otherwise you may forget. Add it up at the end of the week and compare what you spent to those figures of $192 and $384. Then you can see how your spending compares to many of those who have to support themselves.

I assume you plan to go to college. Be VERY grateful for the opportunity to go! Some people are never able to go to college and, without the earning power of that education, are stuck all their lives in low-paying and physically hard-working jobs.

there is a difference b/w , living like a rich or really rich , you cannot see what you have , it can be conclude by checking the bank accout .

  • BriarKat:

You are asking if we think YOU are rich based on Ugg boots and game tables? What is your salary and what is your net worth? Dont have one? Then you are not rich.

  • VATreasures:

You are describing a very comfortable lifestyle. It is good that you are earning your own money.

It is also good to hear that you are learning to give to others. I hope you are also learning to put some savings aside and starting a little investing. If you do that you will become much richer than if you spend all your income on consumption.

  • zeph88:

upper middle class. I bet your parent’s W2 total is between 100k and 140k. and they can only file form IRS 1040, like my dad.
your house is probably worth about 600k, and your family is not conservative about spending money.

Are you rich? yes. Are you really rich? no.
you’re just richer than many people, but this is very typical in many communities across the US. You just show it more than other people. but you don’t have significantly more money that the middle class people.

As the cost of living increases, the income levels of the people will continue to increase, just 20 years ago making 100k a year makes you an upper class citizen. now its upper middle class. Soon it’ll be middle class and lower middle class.
