I have a canvas backpack, been using it for groceries for 20+ years.

i don’t use any bags at all…i ride my bike to the store with trailer and kids in tow…i just load the food directly into the trailer trunk and unload at home….because of this, the stores i go to will not give me the 3 cents a bag i am not using because i don’t use any bags at all….that is how eco friendly are grocery stores are becoming…..but, i live in portland, oregon….so, i see people using their own bags all of the time

  • Uncle Dud:

No I like to get paper bags and reuse them.

  • Christopher P:

The reusable bags seem to be catching on to the mainstream here in the Pacific Northwest. I have been bringing my own bags to the grocery stores for a few years now, and I used to get weird looks from the check-out clerk. Now, it is just something about half the people do. I think the grocery stores selling the bags for so cheap, and the threat of banning plastic bags has caught the public’s attention.

Yes, we do…and we have for quite some time.
I have noticed that not too many people are using them. We always get stopped on our way out of wal-mart & our cart checked, and we get a lot of funny looks as well. At least we know we are doing our part…not to mention, we don’t have a bunch of plastic bags piling up at home.
To avoid the whole “green gimmic” thing….(it’s all about the money)…We recycle stained and worn out clothing to make our bags. I quilt our bags, and make sure they are sturdy enough to carry 20lbs in each. So we don’t contribute to the “green” money maker. We’re doing it for the right reasons. I wonder how much energy they use making one of those bags?…..Hmmmm…I should wonder. Why not do what we do or re-use a bag you have lying around the house?
I prefer my own bag any day….I hope this answers your question. Take care & God bless!

yes we do, in fact the store pays us 5 cents for every bag full that we use. We find them more convenient because they hold more, stronger, are more stable, and are easier to carry.

  • stghm:

If I plan on buying enough that I will need a bag. Usually I only buy one or two things at a time, so I just carry them out.

  • pp_sheeba:

Yes you can buy them almost anywhere…. I have even convinced my newspaper guy to go mor green… By using rubber bands rather then plastic bags……

  • rmbrruffian:

I have bought the reusable bags from the grocery store. I keep them in my car all the time, so I don’t forget them.

  • Trista M:

yes I do in fact most stores in my area give you 5 cents per bag you bring. To bad all states arent like that. I was in Minnesota this last weekend and was so sad that the people there dont use them. I didn’t even see them offered in the stores and they dont recycle the soda cans. Come on people hoe hard is it to recycle and use reusables. It is for the future of our kids.

  • joecool123_us:

    Of course! Every time.

It’s even more of a shock to the grocers when you don’t use a bag at all that’s for sure. Like, if you’ve got 4 items and just carry them out.

  • SouthParkRocks:

    yes i do use them
