Absolutely. In fact, it’s considered a very bad idea to check a laptop through in your luggage, as it might get stolen.

  • Damocles:

Yes. At the security checkpoint, you must remove the laptop from its bag and put it in a separate bin to go through the x-ray machine. They may ask you to turn it on, and they may use some bomb sniffing devices on it.

The batteries in these things look amazing like plastic explosives in x-ray machines. The point of you turning it on is to prove that they are batteries.

Not only are you allowed to, but most airlines allow a separate laptop bag in addition to your normal carry-on bag. You will need to remove your laptop from your bag at security and place it in a separate plastic tray for x-ray, rarely are you asked to turn it on anymore, I haven’t been asked to turn mine on for years and travel frequently with my laptop.

  • Vikki F:

Yes, one carry-on and a personal item.

Yes you are allowed. I take my laptop with me all the time. Never check in your laptop it might be stolen or get damaged with you bag being thrown by luggage guys. If you want to use the laptop in the plane make sure you shut off your wireless activity so there woun’t be no problems.
